While working at FCB studios Ben was Project Architect for these student flats constructed in the heart of the university campus.
The 473 rooms had to be completed to a tight timetable dictated by the arrival of the students at the beginning of term. This was done along with some considerable cost savings through close cooperation between the consultant design team and the main contractor (many of whom had worked on the Oxstalls project).
The highly insulated flats take full advantage of the extensive views across the Somerset countryside and richly landscaped courtyards. The courtyards have become important social spaces for the students. The students have also found an endless variety of creative uses for the large kitchen windows.
Year after year these two buildings prove to be the most popular of the student accommodation on campus.
